The Washburn XB range of bass guitars feature modern styling and active circuitry to give a powerful array of sounds. Finished in a gloss black, these are great value rock basses, but are pretty versatile and good for most music styles.
The stylish headstock is small, for a bass guitar anyway, with a gloss black finish to the front. Washburns logo and 'Bantam Series' is on the front in white, and the black truss rod cover displays the model number.
The back of the headstock is plain, satin Maple, with the serial number and 4, 2-a-side, black macine heads in the smaller, modern bass style.
The Maple neck also has a satin finish, and feels fairly chunky. The width of the top nut is 42mm, and the neck tapers to 56mm at the 12th fret. It all feels very nice, the neck is smooth and help for moving around the neck quickly.
The fretboard is Rosewood, unbound, with large white position markers. Fretwork is very good, as on all Washburns, and the board itself is has a nice tight grain, giving an excellent feel when played.
The neck is bolted onto Alder body, around the back are 4 recessed black screws holding everything together. It joins at the 17th fret on the bass side, and the top, 19th fret on the treble, so the large cutaway here gives access to the very top of the fretboard easily.
The body itself in finished in a 'none more' black gloss, you can't go wrong with black, and has plenty of chamfering around the back, so it fits nicely into your body when played, and on the front, the top bout is also taken away, leaving more room for your right arm (left arm for lefties) to move around.
The pickups are Washburns own single coils, soapbar style P90's, a 941 at the neck, and 943 at the bridge. The have a matt black covers, matching the guitar nicely, and are pretty hot. The active circuitry boosts response, so you get good, clean and clear tones across the range. This guitar is meant to rock, so play it fast, aggressively and with a bit of distortion for best results!
The bridge is black, a 4 saddle job, all fully adjustable, and you get 3 controls, a master volume, master tone and a pickup blend.
A very nice bass guitar, modern looks, powerful tones and at a great price. No wonder they're so popular!
