The conventional wisdom in building electric guitars has long been that the more uniform and heavy the material, the better the sound.
But not any more. Yamaha has shattered this concept with an advanced technology called Alternative Internal Resonance, or A.I.R. for short.
The all new RBX4 A2 bass guitar is a marvel of modern technology. The proprietary A.I.R. (Alternative Internal Resonance) construction body, LED lit cylindrical diecast knobs, lightweight tuners, and Yamaha Custom Shop designed pickups make this a high tech masterpiece that is not only stunningly beautiful, but tonally revolutionary.

The Secret of A.I.R. Technology
Alternative Internal Resonance (or A.I.R.) technology utilizes a lightweight wood core sandwiched between a harder, heavier wood on both the front and back of the guitar's body. Special sound tubes pass through the body so that string vibrations normally resonating only the guitar's top are transmitted through the entire body. By exciting the entire body structure and shaping the tone with the hard top and back, A.I.R. construction creates a full, powerful, and resonant tone with distinctive presence and body that are truly unique.

A lovely, light guitar, great for smaller players, kids in particular, with a great double cutaway shape, LED's and hot pickups.
The headstock is small, totally gloss black, with Yamaha and the 3 tuning forks logo in silver on the front.
The small, light, machine heads are satin Chrome, which are excellent, really accurate with a great look.
The neck is of an avereage size, not too fat, not too thin, a gloss black paint job to the back, and an unbound Rosewood fingerboard. This has no position markers, although you'll be glad to head they have put markers on the upper edge for you!
It's a pretty decent fingerboard as well, nicely polished with good fretwork throughout.
The neck is bolted onto the body by 4 recessed screws, joining at the 20th fret on the bass side, and the 22nd on the treble.
The body is all over gloss black, with 2 thin white lines, going from the egde to the bridge pickup, and to the pickup selector rotary. RBX4 A2 is written in silver on the top of the body near the neck join. The body has silver binding to the top.
The bridge is a Yamaha Original, 4 saddle style, all fully individually adjustable, with a string through body tail, visible on the back of the guitar. Here, you'll also see the 3 'sound tubes' that pass thorough the body into the bridge on the front, giving extra resonance to the guitars body.
There are 3 Chrome rotary switches on the front, the first controls the volume for the neck pickup, the second the volume for the bridge pickup, and the third is the master tone. Here's the fun bit, the 2 volume controls light up in red or blue, getting brighter as you turn the volume up - a groovy touch - expect to see this copied on many guitars soon!
The pickups are excellent too, Yamaha's Custom Shop YASH single coils, and they're pretty hot. Picking up loads of resonance through the super light weight, specially designed body, plenty of funk and jazz tones on offer, but also great with a bit of distortion - pretty versatile.
A great guitar, with some interesting features. The ultra light weight A.I.R. body will particularly appeal to many players, as will the funky LED's around the volume controls and the YASH pickups. Not your average run of the mill bass guitar this one!
