Top - Solid Cedar, 3 extra sound holes Back - Mahogany Sides - Mahogany Neck - 3 piece Mahogany, 25.2" scale Fingerboard - Rosewood, dot markers, 20 frets Machines - die-cast, gold
This stunning Jumbo sized acoustic guitar from Indie has a solid Cedar top, Mahogany body and neck, hand inlaid wood mosaic soundhole rosette and 3 free extra soundholes.
It's immaculately finished off, with beautiful binding, superb grain to the woods and a sound that really has to be heard, the extra soundholes help the whole guitars acoustics reverberate, increasing the dynamics, volume and tone all round.
The small, slim headstock tapers inwards slightly and has a curvy end. The front has a dark Rosewood face, bound in cream plastic, and has Indies logo at the top in beautiful white and green Abolone.
The back of the headstock is plain satin Mahogany, a nice light brown colour and very smooth. The 2 rows of machine heads are die-cast, in gold, and they work very well.
The Mahogany neck also has a satin finish, as does the whole guitar, and again, this is super smooth making for a lovely neck to play. The neck is pretty slim, a broad D profile, and has a nut width of 42mm.
The Rosewood fingerboard is fully bound in cream plastic and has very tidy fretwork and an excellent grain. Large white dots mark the usual fretboard positions.
All Indie guitars are fully set-up by their own workshop in the UK prior to shipping out to us dealers, and this guitar has an action height at the 12th fret of 4mm on the bass side, going down to 3mm on the treble.
The neck joins the Mahogany body at the 14th fret, and this again has a lovely satin finish. Not smooth here though, they've left it all a bit rough allowing you to feel the lovely grain of the Mahogany. The back has a cream binding, it's bookmatched and has a centre line of a hand inlaid mosaic, a checkerboard of black and white exotic woods. Very nice.
These nice touches continue on the solid Cedar top, now this is smoother, but again has a nice feel to the wood grain. No heavy lacquers needed here, just natural wood. The top is bound in cream plastic, with the edges of the top having another mosaic of dark and light woods, must have taken someone a long time to get all of this done!
The mosaics continue, this time around the soundhole. Triangles of intricate Rosewood, with a much lighter Cedar edging, fantastic looking and again, shows the amount of care put into construction of their guitars.
So, the top has these extra 3 soundholes. A gimmick? No. It's a revelation, they really help the acoustics, giving a lovely, rounder, more full bodied sound. All of the harmonics are amplified so you get great basses, singing trebles and plenty of middle.
In all, a superb acoustic guitar that will rival anything in its price bracket on tone alone. Then when you consider the beautiful mosaics, the soundhole rosette, the top binding and the rear centre line, and the talking point of the 3 free soundholes, you've got yourself a truly excellent guitar that will improve with age and you'll enjoy playing for a very long time.
